Coffee shop, undercounter ice machine, no ice. A Hoshizaki KM-81BAJ: 115 volts, R-134a, a crescent cuber that lives under the espresso counter.

Hoshizaki puts a row of LEDs on the control board, and each one lights for a step of the cycle: fill, freeze, harvest, pump-out. One cycle of watching them shows exactly where the machine is stalling, before a tool comes out. If it shuts itself down, the board flashes a count, and the chart inside the panel decodes it.

It’s one of the most useful things in the machine, because it spells out what’s wrong in plain English. Freeze cycle too long, harvest too long, high evaporator temperature, low voltage. Each has a short list of causes printed next to it.

On this one the board pointed at the water side, so that’s where we went: inlet valve, float switch, and the fill sequence. Cleaned and verified, then the machine run through full freeze and harvest cycles with the panel off, watching the lights do what they’re supposed to.

If you own a Hoshizaki and it stops, leave the panel on and call. Tell us what it did before it quit: no ice, slow ice, or water where it shouldn’t be. Half the diagnosis happens on that phone call.

If it heats or cools, we handle it. 📞 718-802-1700
