A Manitowoc IYT1200A in an office kitchen: three-phase, R-410A, 46 ounces.

On a Manitowoc the decision to harvest is made by one part: the ice thickness probe. It’s a wire hanging in front of the evaporator. As the sheet grows, water running down the face eventually touches the wire. When the controller sees water contact for long enough, freeze is over and harvest begins.
So the probe decides how thick the ice is. If it’s coated in scale it senses water early and the ice comes out thin. If it’s bent away from the plate, or the bracket is loose, it never touches, and the machine freezes on until a safety timer ends the cycle. Same part, opposite symptoms.

This probe’s wire had a dark coating on it.
If your Manitowoc’s ice has started coming out thin, or the machine is running long cycles with a fat bridge, say so when you call: it points straight at the probe. It’s also the reason we clean these machines properly rather than just wiping down the bin.
If it heats or cools, we handle it. 📞 718-802-1700
